NI Requirements Gateway
Requirements Gateway

Overview
Requirements Gateway 2018 is the upgrade version of Requirements Gateway 2014. Requirements Gateway is a requirements traceability solution that links development and verification documents with formal requirements defined in documents and databases. Requirements Gateway improves the quality of the development process by effectively managing requirements traceability and impact analysis throughout the life cycle of a project.
System Requirements
Requirements Gateway 2018 has the following system requirements:
Pentium 4M (32-bit) or Pentium 4 G1 (64-bit)
At least 1 GB of disk space
1 GB (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) RAM
Supported Operating Systems
Requirements Gateway 2018 supports the following operating systems:
Windows 10 (version 1709)/8.1 Update 11/7 SP12
Windows Server 2012 R21
Windows Server 2008 R2 SP12
1 NI software installs VC2015 Runtime and .NET 4.6.2. Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 require Microsoft updates to support these items. Refer to Microsoft KB2919442 and KB2919355 for more information about how to install these updates.
2 NI software is signed with a SHA-256 certificate. Windows 7 SP1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 require Microsoft updates to support SHA-256. Refer to Microsoft KB3033929 for more information about how to install this security update.
Note In 2018 NI Requirements Gateway dropped support for Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and installations of Windows 7 without any service packs. Requirements Gateway 2018 will not install or run on an unsupported OS. You cannot deploy or distribute applications that use Requirements Gateway 2018 to an unsupported OS. Additionally, after installing Requirements Gateway 2018, you cannot use any installers built on this computer with any version of LabVIEW, LabWindows™/CVI™, NI TestStand™, or Measurement Studio on an unsupported OS.
For more information about the changes to our OS support for 2016, refer to KB 79UC78LS, Why Does my LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, or TestStand Built Installer Fail on Windows XP/Vista and Server 2003?.
Note Support for Windows 32-bit operating systems may require disabling physical address extension (PAE). To learn how this might affect your system and what actions you might need to take, visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code PAESupport.

Installation Instructions
Complete the following steps to install Requirements Gateway.
Note NI recommends exiting all programs before running the installer. Applications that run in the background, such as virus scanning utilities, might cause the installation to take longer than necessary to complete.
Note You cannot install Requirements Gateway to a network path or a mapped network path. You must install Requirements Gateway on a local computer.
Log in as a user with administrator privileges.
Insert the Requirements Gateway installation media and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
Requirements Gateway 2018 installs the following additional software components:
LabWindows™/CVI™ 2017 Run-Time Engine
NI Update Service
NI License Manager
Installing Multiple Versions of Requirements Gateway on the Same Computer
When you upgrade to a new version of Requirements Gateway, you can install the new version on the same computer that has an existing version of Requirements Gateway. Use the Requirements Gateway Install Utility to specify the active version of Requirements Gateway. Launch the Requirements Gateway Install Utility from the Start menu. The Requirements Gateway Install Utility is also located at <National Instruments>SharedNIRGUtilityNIRGUtility.exe.
Note You must always use the Requirements Gateway Install Utility to configure the version of Requirements Gateway you want to use after you uninstall a different version of Requirements Gateway. If you do not run the utility after you uninstall Requirements Gateway, NI does not guarantee that the remaining version of Requirements Gateway still associates with the existing Requirements Gateway files.
Upgrading from Requirements Gateway 1.0
To comply with Windows 8.1/8.0/7/Vista restrictions on writing to the Program Files directory and to improve usability for Windows XP users who do not have permission to write to the Program Files directory, Requirements Gateway 1.1 or later installs some files in different locations from Requirements Gateway 1.0. Refer to the Directory Relocation section of the NI Requirements Gateway 1.1 Release Notes for more information about directory location changes. Visit ni.com/info and enter the Info Code NIRG11Notes to locate the NI Requirements Gateway 1.1 Release Notes.
Licensing
Requirements Gateway relies on licensing activation. You must activate a valid Requirements Gateway license before you can run Requirements Gateway. To activate Requirements Gateway, use the serial number you received as part of your installation package. You must also have a MyNI user profile to activate a Requirements Gateway license. Refer to the Activating Your Software topic in the NI Requirements Gateway Help for more information about how to activate Requirements Gateway.
If you do not activate a valid license, Requirements Gateway runs in Evaluation Mode and continues to prompt you to activate a license on each subsequent launch. In Evaluation Mode, you can use all the features of the product for 7 days. You can use an ni.com User Profile to extend the evaluation period for an additional 45 days. You can activate a license at any point during or after the evaluation period.
