NI OPC Servers 2012 Win32/64Eng NI OPC服务器2012

OPC Servers

New Features and Changes

This section lists the new features in NI OPC Servers 2012 and changes from NI OPC Servers 2010.

The most important change made in NI OPC Servers 2012 is the separation of the Configuration and the Runtime. The server Runtime is now administered through a separate administration utility. This separation allows projects to be both created and edited either online or offline.

Server Installation

NI OPC Servers 2012 supports side by side installation for users that already have NI OPC Servers 2010 or earlier installed on the machine. This installation allows users to run both server versions at the same time. It is recommended for users that need to run concurrent tests comparing the old server to the new server. In order to connect to NI OPC Servers 2012, the OPC client must reference a new Program ID.

Note  For Wonderware connections, users must change the application name provided for server connections.

Server Administration

Several changes have been made to the server administration as a consequence of separating the server Runtime from the Configuration. Many settings that impact how a project runs have been moved to the Project Properties, and travel with a project when it is moved to a new PC.

Settings that affect how the server works (such as DCOM configuration) have been moved to the NI OPC Servers Administration menu. Affected functions and processes are as follows:

  • Runtime start and stop

  • Client connection re-initialization

  • Event Log re-initialization

  • User Management

  • UA Management

  • License Utility

  • Server Settings, including DCOM Management, Runtime Process Mode (Service or Desktop), Process Priority, and Processor Affinity (multi-core CPU Management)

NI OPC Servers 2012 Configuration

As previously mentioned, NI OPC Servers 2012 separates the server Runtime and Configuration. This means that users can create or edit a project while online or offline. Since the Runtime uses a default project, users must save the edited online project to an OPC or XML-formatted file in order to move it to another PC.

Project settings can now be accessed through the Configuration by clicking File | Project Properties. Settings include the NI OPC Servers 2010 or earlier Project Identification information, OPC DA, OPC DA Compliance, DDE, iFIX PDB, WW FastDDE/Suitelink, OPC AE, and OPC UA.

SecurityOPC Client Connections

In order to address the demand for improved OPC and DCOM configuration security, NI OPC Servers 2012 enforces strict DCOM compliance at startup. This server setting is enabled through the Runtime Options dialog, which is located through the Administration menu by clicking Settings | Runtime Options. The option is located beneath OPC Connection Security, in the checkbox "Use DCOM configuration utility settings." The default setting is checked. In NI OPC Servers 2010 or earlier, this option is located through the Configuration by clicking Tools | Options... | OPC Settings. The default setting is unchecked. This means that as long as DCOM is configured, local clients can connect.

Note  Users that are unable to connect to NI OPC Servers 2012 but are able to connect to NI OPC Servers 2010 or earlier should uncheck this option.

Plug-ins Affected When the Server is Running as a ServiceAdvanced Simulator

The Advanced Simulator Driver uses ODBC to connect to data sources. When running as a service, users can only connect to a data source defined as a System DSN. When running interactively on the desktop, users should utilize User or System DSNs. It is recommended that System DSNs be used.

DDE Client Driver

Since DDE cannot run as a service, the DDE Client Driver can only be used when the server is running interactively on the desktop.

InTouch Client Driver

The InTouch Client Driver works similarly to the DDE Client Driver. It can only be used when the server is running interactively on the desktop.

ODBC Client Driver

The ODBC Client Driver uses ODBC to connect to data sources. When running as a service, users can only connect to a data source defined as a System DSN. When running interactively on the desktop, users should utilize User or System DSNs. It is recommended that System DSNs be used.

OPC DA Client Driver

The OPC DA Client Driver is an OPC DA connection and depends on DCOM just like any other OPC DA client. In order for this driver to work correctly, users must properly configure DCOM on all machines involved in the OPC connection.

New Drivers and Changes

This section lists the new drivers in NI OPC Servers 2012 and changes from NI OPC Servers 2010.

NI OPC Servers 2012 supports the following new drivers.

  • Automation Direct Productivity 3000

  • Beckhoff Twincat

  • Custom Interface

  • Cutler-Hammer ELC Ethernet

  • GE Fanuc Focas 1 HSSB

  • Mettler Toledo

  • Opto 22 Ethernet

  • System Monitor

  • OPC UA Client

  • OPC UA Server

    OPC Unified Architecture (UA)

OPC Unified Architecture (UA) is an open standard created by the OPC Foundation with help from dozens of member organizations. It provides an additional way to share factory floor data to business systems (from shop-floor to top-floor). UA also offers a secure method for remote client-to-server connectivity without depending on Microsoft DCOM. It has the ability to connect securely through firewalls and over VPN connections. This implementation of the UA server supports optimized binary TCP and the DA data model.

Note  There is currently no support for UA via HTTP/SOAP web services or for complex data. For more information on OPC UA, refer to the OPC UA Configuration Manager help file.

NI OPC Servers 2012 no longer supports the following drivers.

  • NWL PCAMS

  • US&S Genisys

For a complete list of drivers that NI OPC Servers supports, visit ni.com/info and enter the info code opcdriverlist.
