New Features
New Array Operator step. Use the Array Operator step to initialize an array, operate on an array of measurement results, or generate statistics based on array values. The Array Operator step replaces the Index Measurement step.
New Read 2D Barcode step. Use the Read 2D Barcode step to read a Data Matrix, QR code, or PDF417 code in a region of interest. The Read 2D Barcode step supports the following Data Matrix grading standards: ISO 16022:2000, ISO 14415:2004, AIM-DPM-1-2005. The Read 2D Barcode step replaces the Read Data Matrix, Read QR Code, and Read PDF417 Code steps.
New Read/Write I/O (Vision RIO) step. Use the Read/Write I/O (Vision RIO) step to read and write digital I/O lines and ports on NI PCI-8254R/PCIe-8255R IEEE 1394 interface devices with reconfigurable I/O. The Read/Write I/O (Vision RIO) step replaces the Read/Write I/O (NI-IMAQ I/O) step.
New Generate Pulse (Vision RIO) step. Use the Generate Pulse (Vision RIO) step to generate a single pulse or a pulse train using NI PCI-8254R/PCIe-8255R IEEE 1394 interface devices with reconfigurable I/O. The Generate Pulse (Vision RIO) step replaces the Generate Pulse (NI-IMAQ I/O) step.
New Vision RIO Device Configuration dialog box. Use the Vision RIO Device Configuration dialog box to specify which Vision RIO devices are available to Vision Builder AI steps or for use with custom FPGA personalities, and to configure line settings for individual devices.
New Print Inspection State Diagram option. Select File» Print Inspection State Diagram to print the inspection state diagram.
Updated Inspection Interface Configuration Options. The Inspection Interface Configuration dialog box has been updated. You can now select results to display in the default Inspection Interface. The Inspection Interface Editor now supports graph and histogram indicators.
Updated Update Inspection UI Step The Update Inspection UI step has been updated to support arrays.
Updated Set Variable Step. The Set Variable step has been updated to support array variables, and to support resetting variables to initial values.
Updated Detect Objects Step. The Detect Objects step has been updated to support 80 user-selectable shape measurements. Selected measurements are used to sort detected objects and are returned as results for the step.
Updated Run LabVIEW VI Step. The Run LabVIEW VI step has been updated to simplify VI configuration, to support VI paths relative to an existing inspection running on Windows, to support 1D array controls and indicators, to support path controls and indicators, and to produce Regions of Interest that can be used by subsequent steps.
Updated Calculator Step. The Calculator step has been updated to support updating variables with output values. On the Main tab, select Edit Inputs/Outputs»Output Results»Update to select the variable to update for each output.
Updated Calibrate Image Step. The Calibrate Image step has been updated to support image acquisition steps that return images which vary in size.
Updated Edit Transition dialog box. The Edit Transition dialog box has been updated to support using previous measurements to compute transition criteria.
Updated Image Acquisition Steps. All image acquisition steps have been updated with a new Every Image acquisition mode. Every Image mode uses image buffers to store images and compensate for occassional iterations where the image processing period exceeds the image acquisition period.
New and Updated Debugging Tools. Vision Builder AI 2012 includes the following debugging tools:
Step Over—Click the Step Over button to immediately move to the end of the state.
Set Breakpoint—Right click a step and select Set Breakpoint to specify a breakpoint at the selected step. When you run the inspection, the inspection will pause at any breakpoint.
Event Log—The event log is visible at the bottom of the Inspection Measurements dialog box. To view inspection measurements, select Tools»View Measurements. The event log displays results and execution time for each step, as well as information about each state transition. The event log now supports inspections run on a remote target.

Known Issues
General
Vision Builder AI behaves unexpectedly or may not display an inspection image if the image is large and your computer is low on available memory.
If you configure a step to pass or fail based on pixel distances and subsequently calibrate the image, the step will compare calibrated values against pixel-based limits.
When connected to a remote target in the Configuration interface, the TCP Communication Terminal is not updated if you select an Operate»Run Inspection option.
When connected to a remote target in the Configuration interface, the Serial Communication Terminal is not updated if you select an Operate»Run Inspection option.
When connected to a remote target, the Configuration interface does not execute the Cleanup state.
After connecting to a remote target and starting an inspection in the Vision Builder AI Configuration interface, if you lose communication and reconnect to the target, the inspection opens in the Vision Builder AI Inspection interface.
LabVIEW Project Integration
Windows Firewall
Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later installed
