Overview
The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility allows you to export your FPGA algorithm developed in LabVIEW FPGA as FPGA IP (Intellectual Property). You can then integrate the IP in your Vivado project and use the IP on any Xilinx Vivado FPGA device of the same family. The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility provides the following editions:
System Requirements
The LabVIEW 2020 FPGA IP Export Utility has the following requirements:
LabVIEW 2020 Full or Professional Development Systems (32-bit or 64-bit)
LabVIEW 2020 FPGA Module (32-bit or 64-bit)
LabVIEW 2020 FPGA Compilation Tool for Vivado 2019.1
Refer to the LabVIEW Readme, LabVIEW FPGA Module Readme, and Xilinx Compilation Tools Readme for additional system requirements and supported operating systems.
Supported Operating Systems
The LabVIEW 2020 FPGA IP Export Utility supports the following operating systems:
1 NI software is signed with a SHA-256 certificate. Windows 7 SP1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 require Microsoft updates to support SHA-256. Refer to Microsoft KB3033929 for more information about how to install this security update.
Note Refer to The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility Drops Support for Windows 7 in 2021 for information about future OS support.
Installation Instructions
NI installs the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility using NI Package Manager. If you do not already have NI software installed, the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility installs NI Package Manager to handle the installation of your NI software. Visit ni.com/r/NIPMDownload to download NI Package Manager. Refer to the NI Package Manager Manual for more information about installing, removing, and upgrading NI software using NI Package Manager.
Notes
If Windows Update is enabled, the installation process might hang if Windows Update interferes with the installation of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Run-Time. Visit ni.com/r/exjq43 for more information and steps to resolve this issue.
If you purchased this product with an NI Software Suite or NI Product Bundle, use the installation media that shipped with your purchase to install this product.
Activation Notice
The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility provides two purchase options: LabVIEW FPGA Netlist Export Utility and LabVIEW FPGA VHDL Export Utility. Depending on your purchase option, activate the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility in the following ways:
LabVIEW FPGA Netlist Export Utility—Allows you to export your FPGA algorithm developed in LabVIEW FPGA to FPGA IP as an encrypted netlist. Activate or evaluate the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility using NI License Manager.
LabVIEW FPGA VHDL Export Utility—Allows you to export your FPGA algorithm developed in LabVIEW FPGA to FPGA IP as an encrypted netlist or plaintext VHDL. Activate the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility in the following ways:
Email labview.fpga.VHDL.access@ni.com with the following information:
If your request is approved, you will receive a node-locked catalog (.cat) file that you can use on the designated computer with the specified LabVIEW version.
Install the catalog file on the designated computer by completing the following steps:
LabVIEW version
Serial number for the LabVIEW FPGA VHDL Export Utility license
Volume serial number—Accessible by running the vol C: command from the command line window.
Close LabVIEW.
Create a folder named IPExport in the labviewFPGA directory, where labview is the installation directory of the specified LabVIEW version.
Copy the catalog file to the new folder.
Activate the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility using NI License Manager.
Upon activation, you can export your FPGA algorithm developed in LabVIEW FPGA to FPGA IP as an encrypted netlist.
To export your FPGA algorithm as plaintext VHDL, continue with the following steps:
You can then export your FPGA algorithm as plaintext VHDL.
Note You can change the filename of the catalog file. Do not include spaces, special or non-ASCII characters in the catalog filename.
Product Security and Critical Updates
Visit ni.com/security to view and subscribe to receive security notifications about NI products. Visit ni.com/critical-updates for information about critical updates from NI.
Accessing the Help
Refer to the Getting Started with the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility for information about using the LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility. Access this manual by navigating to the labviewmanualsLabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility directory and opening FPGA_IP_Export_Getting_Started.pdf
Automating the Installation of NI Products
You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes.
If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.6.2, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.6.2 separately before you install NI software.
For more information about automating the installation of NI products, refer to Automating an Installer in the NI Package Manager manual.
Using NI Software with Microsoft Windows 10
Microsoft Windows 10 is the latest version of the Windows operating system and features significant changes compared to previous versions. Windows 10 introduces several new capabilities and also combines features from both Windows 7 and Windows 8. For more information about NI support for Windows 10, visit ni.com/windows10.
The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility Drops Support for Windows 7 in 2021
The LabVIEW FPGA IP Export Utility will drop support for Windows 7 starting in 2021. Versions of this product that ship after May 1, 2021, may not install or execute correctly on these operating systems. For detailed information about NI operating system support, visit ni.com/r/win32bitsupport.
