NI Application SoftwareVersions Supported by IVI Compliance Package
NI LabVIEWLabVIEW version 2013 or later
NI LabWindows™/CVI™LabWindows/CVI version 7.1 or later

Installation Instructions

ICP is included in the National Instruments Device Drivers media. A stand-alone web distribution version is available on ni.com/downloads.
Before installing ICP 16.0.1, consider the following issues:
  • For compatibility reasons, ICP 16.0.1 installation process enables write permissions for the IVI Standard Root directories (defaults: Program FilesIVI FoundationIVI and Program Files(x86)IVI FoundationIVI) on Windows 7 Service Pack 1, and Windows 8.1 systems.

  • National Instruments recommends that you close all other applications before you install ICP 16.0.1.

To install the stand-alone, web-only ICP, complete the following steps:
  • Download ICP 16.0.1 self-extracting archive file from http://www.ni.com/downloads by navigating through the Drivers and Updates link.

  • Double-click the self-extracting archive file to launch the installer.

  • Click OK to begin installation.

  • Follow the directions that appear on the screen.

Notes:
  • ICP 16.0.1 stand-alone, web-only distribution does not install NI I/O Trace (formerly known as NI-Spy) or MAX. You can install NI I/O Trace and MAX using several other National Instruments products, including the NI Device Drivers media.

  • The installation directory for LabWindows/CVI IVI Class examples and IVI Class Simulation drivers has been changed. The new installation directory is <All Users>DocumentsNational InstrumentsCVISamplesIVI directory.

  • ICP 3.2 and later versions include IVI-COM adapters, which enable users to use IVI-C and IVI-COM specific drivers interchangeably in the same 32-bit application. For more information on IVI-COM adapters, refer to the IVI-C Class Driver Support for IVI-COM Specific Drivers document.

  • ICP 4.5 and later versions install alternate FP and SUB files for the IviFgen class driver in order to support setting 64-bit integer attributes. For more information, refer to KnowledgeBase 5WOA752F: Issue Setting IviFgen Attribute ID Using Get/Set/CheckAttributeViInt64 Functions.

  • If you use ICP 4.5 or later to build a driver, it will work on a system that has ICP 2.5 or later. In addition, all specific drivers on IDNet have been rebuilt with ICP 4.6.1.

Uninstall Considerations

Complete the following steps to uninstall ICP 16.0.1:
  • From the Control Panel, select Uninstall a Program.

  • Select National Instruments Software.

  • Select NI IVI Compliance Package 16.0.1.

  • Click Remove.

Note: After you uninstall ICP 16.0.1, the IVI Shared Components remain on the system. To remove the remaining components, right-click IVI Shared Components 2.4.1 and select Uninstall/Change.
Note: If you installed ICP 16.0.1 as part of another distribution that depends on ICP 16.0.1, you cannot uninstall ICP 16.0.1 without uninstalling the dependent product.

Product Security and Critical Updates

Visit ni.com/security to view and subscribe to receive security notifications about National Instruments products. Visit ni.com/critical-updates for information about critical updates from National Instruments.

New Features and Bug Fixes

This release includes the following new features and bug fixes:
  • Add functions Ivi_AttributeIsAvailable and Ivi_SessionIsAvailable (CAR 569968)

  • Decoupling VISA header from IVI header (CAR 530691)

  • IVI MAX Provider improvements for 64-bit MI Soft Front Panel (CAR 575894)

  • IVI-COM Adapter IviFgen 5.2 support (CAR 315782)

Refer to the IVI Compliance Package Release Notes, Version 16.0.1, for general information about this product.

Driver Version Naming Changes

IVI Compliance Package (ICP) versions are now aligned with the versions of major NI application software products. This alignment gives you information about the year the driver was released and the most recent software version the driver was designed to work with. Driver versions now start with a two-digit year indicator: <;ProductName><Year-BasedVersion>. For example, ICP 16.0.1 is the version released with LabVIEW 2016. The last version released under the old numbering scheme is ICP 4.6.1. The first version released under the new numbering scheme is ICP 14.0.

Known Issues

  • When installing a user-built distribution configured for distribution media smaller than 200MB that includes a Modular Instruments Run-Time distribution, an installation error might occur. Please refer to KnowledgeBase 5CT96RW1: NI IVI Engine Installation Failure When Included in User-Built Distribution for more information.

  • If IVI Shared Components 2.4.1 or later is already installed when the ICP 16.0.1 installer is run, the IVI Shared Components feature(s) in the feature tree will not be displayed.

  • Because it has a ViInt64 attribute, the IviDigitizer Class Driver function panel file is in the CVI 8.5 format, which is incompatible with LabWindows/CVI versions prior to 8.5. Due to a known issue in LabWindows/CVI 8.5, the Get/Set/Check Attribute function panels do not display the enumerated values in the "Attribute Value" field when the FP format is 8.5. To enter a value manually, you may press "Ctrl+T". Because of this known issue, CVI 9.0.1 or later is recommended for use with the IviDigitizer FP file.

  • In the IVI Configuration Utility in MAX, the NI-DAQ™mx devices (both simulated devices and physical devices) will appear in the Resource Descriptor list in the Hardware Assets table only if you have NI-DAQ™mx 9.2 or later installed.

  • National Instruments IVI libraries, tools, and utilities support only single-byte character strings. You cannot use multi-byte characters, such as those commonly used in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean operating systems. Only single-byte characters, such as ASCII characters, may be passed to IVI function calls, used to set directory paths, and used to create entries in the MAX IVI Configuration Utility.

  • NI-Spy is now known as NI I/O Trace. Images in the National Instruments IVI Driver Help continue to reflect the NI-Spy name. However, the general functionality depicted in the images remains the same.

Known Incompatibilities

  • The IVI Specific Driver Test Suite in LabWindows/CVI 2009 requires ICP 4.1 or later.

  • The IVI Specific Driver Test Suite in LabWindows/CVI 2010 SP1 or later requires ICP 4.5 or later.

Automating the Installation of NI Products

You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software.
If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software.
For more information about automating the installation of NI products, refer to the following KnowledgeBase articles:
  • For more information about silent installations of individual NI products, refer to KB 4CJDP38M, Automating the Installation of a Single Installer.

  • For more information about silent installations of NI products in a suite, such as NI Developer Suite, refer to KB 4GGGDQH0, Automating the Installation of a Suited Installer.

  • To determine what version of NI Installers your product contains, refer to KB 4CJDR18M, How Can I Determine the Type and Version of My National Instruments Installer?.
