Overview
The LabVIEW 2012 Unit Test Framework Toolkit is the upgrade version of the LabVIEW 2011 Unit Test Framework Toolkit. The Unit Test Framework Toolkit provides interactive tools you use to create, configure, manage, and execute tests that check VIs for functional correctness.
System Requirements
In addition to the system requirements for the LabVIEW Development System, the Unit Test Framework Toolkit has the following requirements:
LabVIEW 2012 Base, Full, or Professional Development System (32-bit)
At least 32 MB of disk space
Refer to the LabVIEW readme for additional system requirements and supported operating systems for LabVIEW 2012.
Installation Instructions
You can install all of your LabVIEW products—including the Unit Test Framework Toolkit—using the LabVIEW 2012 Platform DVDs. Refer to the LabVIEW Installation Guide on the LabVIEW Platform DVD 1 for installation instructions and system requirements.
To request additional LabVIEW Platform DVDs, refer to the National Instruments website at ni.com.
Note: If you purchased this product with an NI Software Suite or NI Product Bundle, use the installation media that shipped with your purchase to install this product.
New Features
The Unit Test Framework (UTF) type files available in the previous versions of the Unit Test Framework Toolkit now ship with NI Requirements Gateway 2012, along with the examples about integrating the Unit Test Framework Toolkit with Requirements Gateway. Requirements Gateway is an application that provides a requirements traceability solution. You can use Requirements Gateway to link development and verification documents with formal requirements stored in documents and databases.
You can integrate the Unit Test Framework Toolkit with the following versions of Requirements Gateway:
Refer to the NI Requirements Gateway Help for more information about integrating Requirements Gateway with the Unit Test Framework Toolkit.
Requirements Gateway 2012.
Requirements Gateway 1.1, after you download the UTF type files and examples that Requirements Gateway 2012 ships from the National Instruments website.
The Unit Test Framework Toolkit 2012 targets at reducing the time of loading and executing test files by around 30 percent, especially for test files that contain more than four test cases. The actual improvement may vary depending on the hardware you installed and the complexity of the projects.
Known Issues
You can access the software and documentation known issues list online. Refer to the National Instruments website for an up-to-date list of known issues in the Unit Test Framework Toolkit.
Bug Fixes
The following items are the IDs and titles of a subset of issues fixed in the Unit Test Framework Toolkit. This is not an exhaustive list of issues fixed in the current version of the Unit Test Framework Toolkit. If you have a CAR ID, you can search this list to validate the issue has been fixed.
ID | Fixed Issue |
300593 | LabVIEW Unit Test Framework cannot find base LabVIEW Class |
329370 | Test case values might be overwritten when you switch between test cases |
Accessing the Help
Refer to the LabVIEW Help, accessible by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help from LabVIEW, for information about the Unit Test Framework Toolkit.
Finding Examples
LabVIEW examples for the Unit Test Framework Toolkit are located in the labviewexamplesUnit Test Framework folder. You can modify an example VI to fit an application, or you can copy and paste from one or more examples into a VI that you create.
Automating the Installation of NI Products
You can automate the installation of most NI products using command-line arguments to suppress some or all of the installer user interface and dialog boxes. However, starting with the August 2012 releases (products using NI Installers version 3.1 or later), you may need to perform additional steps before or during a silent installation of NI software.
If the NI product you are installing uses Microsoft .NET 4.0, the .NET installer may run before any NI software installs and may require a reboot before the installation of NI software begins. To avoid a .NET reboot, install .NET 4.0 separately before you install NI software.
For more information, refer to the following KnowledgeBase articles:
For more information on silent installations of individual NI products, refer to KB 4CJDP38M, Automating the Installation of a Single Installer.
For more information on silent installations of suited NI products, such as NI Developer Suite, refer to KB 4GGGDQH0, Automating the Installation of a Suited Installer.
To determine what version of NI Installers your product contains, refer to KB 4CJDR18M, How Can I Determine the Type and Version of My National Instruments Installer?.
