Refer to the Activation Instructions for National Instruments Software for more information about licensing activation.

New Features and ChangesConfiguration API

The new NI SoftMotion Module Configuration API adds the ability to programmatically set the same axis properties available in the Axis Configuration dialog box in your applications. Refer to Configuring NI SoftMotion Axes in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.
Tip Refer to the example VIs in <labview>examplesMotionConfigurationAPI for examples using the new Axis properties in an application.

NI SoftMotion Express VIs

You can now create motion control applications that take advantage of the ease of use of Express VIs.

Profile Generation

Using the new Solve Profile method for straight-line, arc, and contour moves, you can generate a motion profile using specified constraints and obtain position, velocity, and other data without executing a move on an axis or coordinate resource. This data can be used for prototyping, debugging, or for generating position setpoints for the new Motor Control VIs.

Motor Control VIs

The NI SoftMotion FPGA palette adds new Motor Control VIs that allow for brushed servo and stepper motor control, including VIs for spline interpolation, PID and cascaded position-velocity control loops, incremental encoder handling, as well as motion I/O operations such as position compare and position capture.

Programmatic Table Creation

The Create Motion Resource VI adds a Create Motion Resource Item instance that allows you to programmatically create a table resource for use in contour moves.

Contour Points[][] Input

The new Contour Express VI and Contour Points[][] property allow you to provide contour points for synchronous contour moves as an array of position points rather than providing them in a table.

Wait Until Done VI

The NI SoftMotion palette has a new Wait Until Done VI for synchronous operations. This VI implements an adaptive polling method and is recommended for use both with Express VI applications and with NI SoftMotion properties and methods in place of the Wait Until Done method.

Communication Between RT Targets

Using axes, coordinates, and tables on an RT target from another RT target is now supported. Refer to Motion Resources in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.

NI SoftMotion for SolidWorks Simulation Start/Stop Behavior

Instead of starting and stopping SolidWorks simulations by switching the NI Scan Engine mode, there is now a shortcut menu option for each operation. Refer to Starting and Stopping a SolidWorks Simulation in LabVIEW in the NI SoftMotion Module book of the LabVIEW Help, available by selecting Help»LabVIEW Help for more information.

Updated Function Block Palette Location

The NI SoftMotion function blocks are now located under the Advanced subpalette.
